Meet Maria
Maria Amato is a Registered Dietitian (RD) with over 20 years of experience in wellness and nutrition. She specializes in nutrition counseling for general health, sports performance, and individuals struggling with eating disorders. As a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), Maria is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based guidance to help clients build a healthy relationship with food.
Maria holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nutritional Science and has further honed her expertise with a certificate in nutrition counseling from Cornell University. She has conducted research on high school males and disordered eating and negative body image, which she presented at the Academy of Eating Disorders Conference in Orlando, FL.
Maria also brings extensive corporate wellness experience, having worked as a Corporate Wellness Coordinator for Boeing and Rocketdyne for 11 years. In this role, she developed and implemented a comprehensive wellness program — including health lectures, health screenings, walking clubs, and nutrition counseling — serving 2,300 employees (initially 8,000).
She believes that exercise is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle and is an active individual herself. Maria takes a highly personalized approach to nutrition counseling, tailoring her guidance to each individual rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. She understands the struggles individuals face when the cycle of trying the next new diet robs them of life’s joys, only to result in regained weight. Her focus is on educating clients so that weight loss feels like an achievable goal — one that can be reached through the power of knowledge and a balanced approach to eating.
Outside of sports nutrition and eating disorders, Maria also works with individuals looking to lose unwanted weight, improve nutrition-related medical conditions such as high cholesterol or diabetes, or simply learn how to eat better. She believes in educating her clients about food and nutrition so that they can use that knowledge to make informed food choices and achieve their goals with confidence. Maria does not believe in magic pills or quick fixes, but rather in guiding individuals toward sustainable lifestyle changes that lead to lasting results.
